Alaska Trip Day 7 - May 31st

Last day in AK.  We hiked the Rainforest Tour at the north end of Douglas Island in Birkenstocks..haha

After lunch we hooked up with James and Anjuli and they took us on a super pedicab tour of downtown Juneau!

And ended our tour at the famous Red Dog Saloon.

This was a picture of where we stayed in Juneau.  We had the bottom unit, and it was a perfect!

Alaska Trip Day 6 - May 30th

The whole reason for our trip was to celebrate RADM Megan Dean's COC.  All COC's were put on pause so rather than an official ceremony, the Dean's hosts a BBQ at quarters.

Based on recommendations from the Hollingsworth's, we went back to the Mendenhall Glacier and hiked the Trail of Time.

Alaska Trip Day 4 - May 28th Juneau

Got up EARLY to catch the 20 minute flight from Sitka to Juneau.

Unusually low tide rage 14 feet difference and providing amazing tide pool viewing!  We spent a few hours walking up and down Auke Bay and found so many amazing starfish and clams and mussels and shells!

Our main adventure was a whale watching trip was adjusted from a small individualized trip to a group trip on a larger boat due to weather but holy cow did we luck out...

And then a BREACH!  Anderson caught the splash!  AND THEN...

Three more breaches by the baby!  Holy cow!

We saw so much wild life!  This was a buoy Mark used to work with sea lions playing on it.

Had dinner with James and Anjuli and played games at their house, but didn't document with pictures, darn!

Alaska Trip Day 3 - May 27th

Mom went to coffee with her SEARCH supervisor and we got ready for the day..

We chose another hike that we had never done before, we drove up Harbor Mountain Road then then hiked to the alpine hut.  Beautiful hike along the mountain ridges!

At the start of the trail after driving up the Harbor Mountain road

View of Sitka...really Japonski Island.

Anderson grabbed amazing pictures!

Last scramble to the hut

In the alpine hut

Quick turn around to beat out incoming weather

We wandered around town and visited the Sitka Sound Science Center, a local organization that we support.

Mark is the aquarium bubble.

Brooke coming out of the aquarium bubble

Low tides in Sitka allowed us to walk over to a little island off shore.

And gave us excellent views of Mt. Edgecumbe!
