Anderson's British Isles School Trip

Anderson went with Mr. Ray and Mr. Cashwell and 30 students on a tour of the British Isles, which is why the rest of us took our trip to London and Bath.

Trip to England Day 7

Last day, run/hike to the Sham Castle.  It is called "Sham Castle" because it is only a facade built around 1755 to improve the view from Ralph Allen's house, a wealthy Bath resident.

We ran through a cattle grazing field, but did not encounter any cattle.

Drum rolll...Sham Caste.  It had a great view of Bath from the other side of the River Avon.

Trip to England Day 6

Tour of the Roman Baths! Another cool Public Health sight!  Men and women had separate dressing areas, gyms, steam rooms, hot pools and cold plunge pools!  

Drinking the mineral water was thought to be beneficial!  Unlike the Manitou Springs, these were warm, more like drinking hot water.

We took a tour of the Bath Abbey.  Part of the tour included walking up the bell tower.  We learned how they play the 10 bells and .. 

We actually sat behind the clock!  They asked us not to touch the gears or drive train that ran along the wall.  Nutty!

Lastly, we did a Bath Ghost walking tour.  It was pretty scary!!!

 

Trip to England Day 5

 

Celebrated Father's Day with a fun "Dad" pastry in our little flat!

We then took the train to Bath..that was an interesting experience!  They crammed three trains wort of people onto one train.  We did not get to our assigned seats because there were so many people on board.

Finally got to Bath.  Brooke clapping in the middle of the Circus and hearing it echo three times around the circle of buildings.

We stayed at 14 Royal Crescent!  Holy cow it was cool!

Trip to England Day 4

We took an all day tour to see Stonehenge, had lunch in Bath and toured Windsor Castle.  It was really cool to see Stonehenge.  Hard to believe the history behind that area!

We did not take any pictures in Bath, because we were headed there the following day.

 

Windsor Castle was really awesome too!  This is where Queen Elizabeth II and Phillip are buried, where Harry and Meghan were married, and where William and Kate and their family live.  The King's flag was flying over the castle and they kicked us out at 5PM.  There were people dressed up fancy for what we assumed was a celebration of the King's 80th bday.

Trip to England Day 3

We quickly learned how to rid The Tube!

After the Tower of London, we visited Churchills War Rooms.  We didn't take any pictures there.

Then we took an uber to Greenwich so that Dad could round out his navigation collections, north pole, south pole, equator and now the prime meridian!  This became one of our favorite spots.  We wished we had more time to explore.  So much to do here!  Here we are splitting the eastern and western hemispheres, straddling the prime meridian.

And lastly, we had tickets to Shakespeare's, "Much Ado About Nothing," at the Globe Theater!

We had awesome seats.  What a cool experience!

 

Trip to England Day 2

Tour of Westminster Abbey.  Very cool to walk around where we have watched royal weddings, funerals and coronations!  It was amazing to learn that around 3,300 people are buried in Westminster Abbey and its cloisters.

Buckingham Palace.  They do not hold changing of the guard on Thursdays so we missed that, but we were able to get up close which was cool!

St James's Palace, the most senior royal palace in London and right down the street from Buckingham Palace.

Dad flew in this afternoon.  We met him at our flat in South Kensington, and then we moved on with our adventures..

Mom wanted to visit John Snow's Broad Street pump in SoHo.  When we found it, there were two Public Health nutritionists appreciating the site as well.

John Snow is considered the Father of Epidemiology.  He had the SoHo Broad Street water pump handle removed after identifying that it was was the source of the Cholera epidemic in 1854.

Yep, we all had to take a picture with the Broad Street Pump too.
